Hotel Clark is the hotel for travellers who want to stay on the Buda side of the river without giving up style or views. It takes its name from Clark Ádám tér, the square at the Buda end of the Chain Bridge, named after the Scottish engineer Adam Clark, who supervised the building of the bridge in the nineteenth century, and it stands right at this crossroads of the city, where the Chain Bridge meets the foot of Castle Hill and the tunnel runs under it. It is adults only, which gives it a calm, grown-up atmosphere, and its design is contemporary and playful, with art, bold colours and clever details. The room categories are named after their views, which tells you how good they are: Chain Bridge View Rooms and Chain Bridge Studios look straight down the bridge to the Gresham Palace and the basilica dome; Castle View Rooms look up at the Royal Palace on its hill; Danube View Rooms take in the river; and the Danube Top Floor Studio adds views of the bridge and Buda Castle from the highest floor. There are also courtyard rooms, which are quieter but lack the views, and the Clark Suite. On the roof, the LEO Rooftop bar serves signature cocktails and savoury snacks with a panorama over the river and Pest, and downstairs, Leo Bistro is a lively, all-day place for good food. The hotel hosts exhibitions in its Art Corner, and it holds a MICHELIN Key, the guide's hotel distinction, introduced in Hungary in 2025, which it has retained for a second year. It is a four-star hotel with boutique service and a location that combines a quiet, villagey neighbourhood with a five-minute walk across the bridge to the centre of Pest.

Location: the Castle Hill Funicular starts across the square, so Buda Castle and the National Gallery are minutes away, and Fisherman's Bastion and Matthias Church are a short walk further. The Chain Bridge leads straight across the river to the Gresham Palace, St. Stephen's Basilica and the Inner City, a five to ten-minute walk. Behind the hotel, the Víziváros, the Water Town, is a quiet riverside neighbourhood of Baroque churches, cafés and local restaurants that stretches north to Batthyány tér, which has the best views of the Parliament across the river and a metro station on the M2 line.

Choosing the room: book a view category; the Chain Bridge rooms are the most spectacular, especially at night, when the bridge is lit, and the Castle View rooms are wonderful for watching the palace glow at dusk. The top floor studio is a treat for a special occasion. Courtyard rooms are a good value choice for light sleepers.

The trade-offs: the hotel is at a busy traffic junction, so some street-facing rooms hear the city, though windows are well insulated. Children are not accepted, so families should look elsewhere. And while the Buda side is quieter, most restaurants and nightlife are across the river in Pest, a pleasant walk over the bridge. For couples, design lovers and anyone who wants the Chain Bridge outside the window, it is an excellent choice.
