Hotel Daphne is the most stylish place to stay in the Heights and one of the most talked-about Houston openings of recent years. It opened at the end of 2025 at 347 West 20th Street, about a block from the shops, cafes and restaurants of historic 19th Street, and it is the second Houston hotel from Bunkhouse, the Austin-based group behind Hotel Saint Augustine in Montrose. Unlike the converted motel down the road at Heights House, Daphne is a new, five-story building designed with Blanchard A+D to fit the neighborhood's scale, and its interiors, designed in-house by Bunkhouse, draw on the Heights' history as one of Houston's first planned suburbs and on the Greek myth of Daphne, with warm natural materials and a calm, residential feel. There are 49 rooms, so the hotel feels intimate, and service is personal. The restaurant, Hypsi, is a draw in its own right: an Italian-inspired restaurant and lounge led by chef Terrence Gallivan that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and a happy hour, with aperitivo-style cocktails, housemade pasta and Gulf Coast ingredients, and sun-drenched patios that fill with locals. A library doubles as a small private events space, and a retail shop sells curated goods. The hotel is near the Heights Theater and White Oak Music Hall for live music, and the Heights hike-and-bike trail and tree-lined Heights Boulevard are close by for morning walks. Bunkhouse is part of Hyatt, so the hotel books through Hyatt. Expect rates in the upper range for Houston, reflecting the boutique size and the design.

Book well ahead for weekends, when the small room count and the neighborhood's popularity can make availability tight. Ask about room types when you book, since a boutique building of this size often has a range of layouts and views, and request a quieter room if you plan to sleep early on weekend nights, when Hypsi and the patios are busy.

Spend your time in the Heights. Walk 19th Street for vintage shops, boutiques and cafes, stroll Heights Boulevard under the oaks, and explore the neighborhood's restaurant scene, which ranges from casual taquerias to some of the city's most celebrated dining rooms. Catch a show at the Heights Theater or White Oak Music Hall, and use the hike-and-bike trail for an easy run or ride. ARTECHOUSE is a short drive south near Washington Avenue.

Hotel Daphne suits couples, food lovers and design-minded travelers who want a neighborhood stay rather than a downtown tower. For a more playful, budget-friendly Heights option, Heights House Hotel is nearby; for a similar Bunkhouse feel near the Menil and the Rothko Chapel, consider Hotel Saint Augustine. Downtown, the Museum District and the Galleria are each a short drive away, so plan on rideshares or a car.
