In a city where hotel rates run high, the ibis Styles Luxembourg Centre Gare is one of the most practical budget bases. It stands on Rue Joseph Junck in the Gare district, about 200 metres from the central station, so trains to the airport, to Vianden via the northern line and to neighbouring countries are a two-minute walk away. The hotel has 68 non-smoking, air-conditioned rooms, including standard doubles and twins and family rooms with a double and three singles that sleep up to five. There is a bar, a breakfast buffet every morning, a garden terrace and a 24-hour reception, plus a private garage. Pets are welcome and the hotel is wheelchair accessible. The old town is about 15 minutes on foot or a short ride on free buses and trams.
Living in it: it is the right choice for a short, budget-minded stay with day trips, an early train or a family that needs one room for five. The free public transport makes the station area easy to use as a base.
Trade-offs: standard rooms are small, and the Gare district is busier and less picturesque than the old town, with some rough edges at night. Check whether breakfast is included in your rate, and note that the garage costs extra.
