If you love the idea of Marrakech but want space, pools and a resort rhythm to balance the Medina, the Four Seasons is the answer. Opened in June 2011 on the edge of the Hivernage district, it occupies forty acres, about sixteen hectares, of gardens laid out like an Andalusian estate, with long reflecting pools, fountains, olive trees, palms and orange groves, across the road from the historic Menara Gardens. The architecture borrows from Moroccan tradition, with arched colonnades, courtyards and tadelakt, in a calm, contemporary key. There are 141 rooms in all: 79 guest rooms and 34 pavilion rooms, 25 suites in the main building and gardens, and three garden villas, most with balconies or terraces facing the gardens or the Atlas. Two outdoor pools serve different moods: a family pool beside the children's wading pool, and a second, calmer pool set in the gardens. Le Spa has eight treatment rooms, a couples suite, a sound-healing room and a hair and nail salon, with separate wet areas for men and women including saunas, hammams and plunge pools, and it is one of the best places in the city to try a traditional hammam and gommage in comfort. The supervised Kids for All Seasons program, with its own wading pool, and a young adult center for teenagers make it the strongest family resort in Marrakech, while the two tennis courts and fitness facilities keep active guests busy. Dining runs from Quattro, the Italian restaurant, to the Azzera and Inara lounges and Zest, the rooftop bar. The service is classic Four Seasons, warm and efficient, and the concierge team is skilled at arranging guides, Atlas excursions, balloon flights and Agafay dinners.

Who it suits: families above all, couples who want a resort with the Medina close by, and travelers coming for a winter-sun break who plan to spend much of their time by the pool. It is also a good choice for first-timers who find the idea of navigating Medina lanes at night daunting: you can dip into the old city by day and return to wide paths and quiet gardens.

Location math: the resort faces the Menara Gardens on the edge of Hivernage. The official description calls the Medina an easy walk; in practice Bab Jdid and La Mamounia are about fifteen minutes on foot and Jemaa el-Fna around half an hour, or a short taxi ride. Hivernage's restaurants and bars are close by, and Marrakech Menara Airport is about ten minutes by car, which makes arrivals and departures painless. The Jardin Majorelle and Gueliz are a short drive.

Practical notes: rates are in the luxury bracket, with peaks at Easter, during school holidays in spring and autumn and over Christmas and New Year, when the kids club is busiest. Garden and Atlas-view rooms are worth requesting; pavilion rooms are quieter. A per-person nightly tourist tax is added to the room rate. Book spa treatments and Atlas excursions when you reserve.
