Le Cavendish is the kind of Cannes hotel that regulars return to year after year. It occupies an elegant Belle Époque building on the boulevard Carnot, a broad avenue leading inland from the centre, a few minutes' walk from La Croisette, the Palais des Festivals and the rue d'Antibes shopping street. Inside, period character has been kept, and the thirty-four bedrooms are individually decorated, air-conditioned and comfortable. What sets it apart is hospitality. The four-star hotel is known for treating guests like visitors to a private house: a generous homemade breakfast is served in the morning, and in the evening guests are offered an aperitif in the lounge bar, a convivial ritual that makes it easy to meet other travellers and ask the staff for restaurant tips. The hotel holds the Green Key environmental label, has a lift and parking, and accepts pets. Its location suits people who want Cannes on foot without paying the prices of the seafront palaces: La Croisette and the beaches are about five to ten minutes away, the Old Port and Le Suquet slightly further, and Cannes station, with trains to Nice, Antibes and Grasse, is close by. The ferries to the Lérins Islands leave from the Old Port. Note the season: the hotel opened on 13 March for 2026 and closes on 6 December 2026; it is expected to reopen in spring 2027, with dates to be confirmed, so it is not an option for a Christmas or February stay.
Choosing a room: rooms vary in size and style, from cosy standard rooms to more spacious superior categories; those at the back are quieter than those on the boulevard, which carries traffic. Ask for a higher floor for more light. The hotel's character is very much in its décor, so look at photos of the different categories before booking.
Living here: the breakfast and evening aperitif are the stay's signature moments and give the hotel a friendly, almost family feel unusual in Cannes. The rue d'Antibes and the Forville covered market are within walking distance for shopping and food, and the restaurants of Le Suquet are a pleasant walk away. During the Film Festival in May and other big events, rates rise sharply and minimum stays may apply.
Who it suits: couples, solo travellers and anyone who prefers charm and personal service to a beachfront palace. Pair it with a day on the Lérins Islands and a day trip to Grasse or Antibes. If you are travelling between December and early spring, choose an all-year hotel such as the Splendid on the Old Port instead. Within the season, spring and early autumn are the sweet spots: the beaches are calm, the weather is warm enough for long walks along La Croisette, and rates are lower than in July and August.
