Katathani Phuket Beach Resort fills most of the bay at Kata Noi, one of the prettiest and calmest beaches on Phuket’s west coast, and it is the island’s best all-round family resort. It stretches along some 850 metres of sand and is split into three wings with different personalities. The Thani Wing holds oceanfront suites right on the beach. The Bhuri Wing, across the road from the sand, is aimed at active and younger guests. The newest, the Vhari Waters Wing, soft-opened in December 2025 with a family focus. Between them are nine swimming pools, including a lazy river, a wave pool, a trampoline pool and a small water park with a slide, plus jacuzzis and children’s pools. The Chang Noi Kids Club and Club Tully keep children busy, and there is babysitting when you want an evening out. Twelve restaurants and bars cover Thai seafood to burgers, and the Tew Son Spa handles the grown-ups. With 712 rooms it is large, but the long beach and spread-out wings stop it feeling crowded.
Location and getting around: Kata Noi sits at the southern end of the Kata and Karon coast, at the end of a quiet road, so the resort feels secluded while still being close to the action. Kata Beach, with its restaurants and surf schools, is about a twelve-minute walk over the headland, and taxis wait outside for trips to Karon, Patong, the Big Buddha or Promthep Cape. The airport is around an hour away by car, so book a transfer. Most boat tours to Phi Phi and Phang Nga Bay pick up here.
The rooms: rooms range from standard doubles to large family suites and oceanfront suites with direct beach access in the Thani Wing. Ask which wing suits you when you book: the Thani Wing for beachfront calm, the Bhuri Wing for energy and the pools, and the Vhari Waters Wing for families.
Who it suits: families above all, but also couples who want a full-service beach resort and a sheltered swimming beach. In the high season from November, Kata Noi is usually calm and good for swimming.
Good to know: a buffet breakfast is served in each wing, and many rates include it. Self-parking is free, which helps if you rent a car. Book early for Christmas and New Year, when the resort fills with returning families.
