Costa Adeje

Bahía del Duque

A grand beachfront resort in Costa Adeje, built like a Canarian village in more than sixty thousand square metres of gardens, with five pools, a wellness retreat and a Michelin-starred restaurant.

★★★★★

Bahía del Duque is the splurge stay of the south coast and one of the most celebrated resorts in the Canary Islands. Instead of a single tower, it is laid out as a cluster of buildings in nineteenth-century Canarian style, with coloured façades, wooden balconies and towers, spread through more than sixty-three thousand square metres of tropical gardens that run down to Playa del Duque, one of the best beaches in Costa Adeje. There are five pools, including saltwater pools and a heated children’s pool, and a long list of restaurants and lounges, among them Nub, which holds a Michelin star. The Bahía Wellness Retreat has an outdoor thalassotherapy circuit, treatments, yoga and Pilates. Sports facilities include tennis, padel and squash courts, a pitch and putt, a jogging circuit and even an astronomical observatory, and there are clubs for children and teenagers. It is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.

Location and getting around: the resort is on Avenida de Bruselas at the northern end of Costa Adeje, with direct access to Playa del Duque and the seafront promenade. You can walk along the promenade to the shops and restaurants of Fañabé and Torviscas, and Siam Park and the Puerto Colón marina, where whale-watching boats leave, are a short taxi ride away. Tenerife South airport is about twenty-five minutes by car, and many tours to Teide and the north pick up nearby.

The rooms: the rooms and suites are spread through the different buildings of the resort, many with balconies or terraces over the gardens or the sea. For more privacy, The Villas at Bahía del Duque, a separate enclave with its own pools and services, is bookable on its own.

Who it suits: couples on a special trip, families who want a full-service resort with clubs and pools, and anyone who wants a beach on the doorstep and fine dining without leaving the grounds.

Good to know: the gardens are large, so some rooms are a fair walk from the beach or the main restaurants; ask for a room close to what matters most to you. Check which restaurants are included in your board and reserve the à la carte restaurants early in busy periods.
