Hotel Pacai, a Member of Design Hotels

A design-led luxury hotel in a seventeenth-century Baroque palace on Didžioji Street, with uncovered frescoes, a celebrated restaurant and a spa with sauna and hammam. The splurge of Vilnius.

★★★★★

Hotel Pacai is the most memorable place to stay in Vilnius. It occupies the Baroque palace of the noble Pacai family on Didžioji Street, a building dating to 1677 that was for centuries one of the city’s most ornate residences and witnessed the Commonwealth, tsarist rule and Napoleon’s arrival. It opened as a hotel in 2018 as the first member of Design Hotels in the Baltic states, with architecture by Saulius Mikštas and interiors by YesDesign Architecture. The design leaves historic frescoes and old wall textures exposed and lights them dramatically against calm modern rooms. Restaurant PACAI serves local, seasonal cooking with an award-winning wine list, and SPA PACAI offers massages, facials, a sauna and a hammam.

Living in it: you are in the middle of the Old Town, a short walk from the Town Hall, Cathedral Square and the Gate of Dawn, and the courtyard setting keeps rooms calm. It is ideal for a special occasion or a winter break, when the spa earns its keep.

Trade-offs: rates sit at the top of the Vilnius market, and the Old Town has limited car access, so arrive by taxi and ask about parking. Book the restaurant ahead for weekends.
