SeaWorld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

Ocean realms and aquariums under one roof

SeaWorld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi is the newest of the island’s big parks and quite different from the American SeaWorlds many visitors know. Opened in 2023, it is fully indoors and built around a series of realms themed on the world’s oceans, from the warm waters of the Arabian Gulf to the tropics and the polar regions. Each realm mixes large aquariums and animal habitats with rides, shows and interactive experiences, so a day alternates between watching sharks, rays, penguins and seabirds and riding coasters or watching performances. The centrepiece is an enormous multi-species aquarium you can view from many angles, and the park places a strong emphasis on marine research, rescue and rehabilitation in the region, with a dedicated centre that cares for local wildlife. There are no orcas. It is a good counterpoint to the thrill parks next door and ideal for a hot day. The Tiqets ticket here includes entry and a shuttle service.

How it works: tickets are dated and can be combined with the other Yas parks on multi-park passes. Optional animal encounters and behind-the-scenes experiences cost extra and are limited in number, so book them early if they matter to you. The linked ticket adds a shuttle service, handy if you are staying in the city; on Yas Island, taxis and hotel shuttles make it easy to reach.

What to expect: the park is calm in the morning and busier in the afternoon, and show times shape the day. Rides range from gentle family attractions to a couple of genuine coasters, but the animals and the immersive environments are the real draw. The polar realm is kept cold, so bring a light layer. Food outlets are themed and family-oriented.

Making the most of it: check the show schedule on arrival and build the day around two or three performances. Spend time at the large aquarium at quieter moments, and visit the polar realm in the heat of the afternoon. If you have energy left, the Yas Bay waterfront and Etihad Arena area are close by for dinner.
