Canggu and its quieter neighbour Pererenan have become the world's most famous digital nomad scene, and Tribal is the hostel built for it. It describes itself as Bali's first custom-designed coworking hostel, created for travellers, remote workers and backpackers, and it was founded by Will Hatton, the British travel blogger behind The Broke Backpacker. The property sits at the end of a lane off Jalan Pantai Pererenan, in the village of Pererenan, about five hundred metres from the beach and a few minutes by scooter from Canggu's cafes, surf breaks and beach clubs, with rice fields around it. The concept is simple: make it easy to work and easy to meet people. The coworking space is the centrepiece, with desks, fast internet and a buzzing atmosphere that turns strangers into colleagues and friends, and the pool and cafe areas provide the social life. Accommodation ranges from shared bedrooms, mixed or female-only, where each bed has air conditioning, privacy curtains, lockable storage and a charging drawer, to private suites with ensuite bathrooms, air conditioning, a desk and blackout blinds for up to two adults and a child. The hostel runs in-house experiences and tours, from surf trips to waterfalls and temples, and places weight on low environmental impact and support for local communities. It is not a party hostel, but it is sociable, with regular events and plenty of fellow travellers to join for sunset at Echo Beach or Pererenan beach. For long-stay nomads, a bed here can work out cheaper than renting a villa and coworking separately, and it is a far easier way to land in Bali alone.

Choosing a room: shared bedrooms are the budget option and are well designed for privacy, with curtains, storage and charging in each bed; the female-only rooms suit women travelling alone. Private suites give couples, remote workers who need quiet calls and small families a room of their own while keeping access to the coworking and social spaces. Book early for long stays, as the private suites are limited.

Who it suits: digital nomads, solo travellers, surfers on a budget and anyone who wants a ready-made community. It is less suited to families with young children, travellers who want resort facilities, or those seeking total quiet; COMO Canggu or a private villa will suit them better.

Practical notes: Pererenan's beach has strong surf and currents; swim only where it is safe, and take surf lessons at gentler breaks if you are a beginner. Getting around Canggu is easiest by scooter, but you need a valid licence and must wear a helmet under provincial rules. Canggu traffic can be slow at peak hours. Bookings are made through the hostel's own online booking engine.
