Address Downtown is the hotel most people picture when they imagine a Dubai city stay: a tall, slender tower of glass rising from the edge of Burj Lake, a few minutes' walk from the Burj Khalifa, with a direct connection into the Dubai Mall and the fountain performing below the windows every half-hour after dark. It is the flagship of Emaar's own Address brand, the developer behind Downtown itself, and it was rebuilt and reopened after the fire that famously struck it on New Year's Eve 2015, so the interiors are modern, sleek and polished. Rooms and suites are decorated in calm, contemporary tones with large windows, and the categories to ask for are those facing the Burj Khalifa and the fountain, which give one of the most famous hotel views in the world from your bed; the building also includes serviced residences from studios to four bedrooms for longer or family stays. The pool deck is the other big draw: four pools in all, including a family pool, a sun pool and an adults-only infinity pool, every one of them looking up at the Burj. The Spa has a traditional hammam, sauna and steam rooms and a signature suite with tower views, and the Qix Kids Club on Level 7 keeps younger guests busy. Dining includes Cetara, the hotel's Italian-Mediterranean restaurant, a lobby lounge, a cigar lounge and a pool lounge, with Downtown's whole restaurant scene within a short walk. It is expensive, especially in the cool season and around New Year, but for a first trip with the Burj and the fountain at the centre of the plan, it is hard to beat.
The location is the whole argument. From Address Downtown you can walk into the Dubai Mall without going outside, reach the Burj Khalifa entrance in minutes, stroll to the fountain promenade and Souk Al Bahar for dinner, and cross the boardwalk to Old Town Island and the Dubai Opera. The Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall metro station is reached through the mall, and Dubai International Airport is around twenty minutes away in normal traffic. If you plan to spend most evenings in Downtown, staying here saves a great deal of taxi time and gives you the fountain on your doorstep.
Choosing a room: pay for the Burj or fountain view. The difference in rate is significant, but the view is the reason to stay here rather than at a cheaper hotel nearby. Higher floors give the best perspective over the lake, and suites add living space and, in some categories, corner windows framing the tower. Families should look at the serviced residences, which add kitchens and separate bedrooms, and at the Club Lounge on Level 7 for breakfast, afternoon refreshments and a quieter base. New Year's Eve is a special case: the hotel is at the heart of the Burj Khalifa fireworks and books out far in advance at premium rates, with access to Downtown tightly controlled on the night.
The trade-offs are simple. Downtown is busy, especially around the mall and the fountain in the evenings, and the area can feel like a stage set rather than a neighbourhood. There is no beach, so beach time means a taxi to Jumeirah, the Marina or the Palm, or a resort day pass. And prices are high. But as a base for a short first visit, with the tower above you and the fountain below, Address Downtown delivers the Dubai you came for.
