Valamar Lacroma is the dependable mid-range resort on Babin Kuk, the green peninsula at the western end of Lapad, and it is one of the most practical choices for families and spa lovers who do not need to be in the Old Town. It is a four-star spa hotel run by Valamar, one of the largest Croatian hotel groups, with views over the sea toward the Elaphiti islands and pebble beaches a short walk away. Rooms and suites sleep up to six, which is unusual in the city and makes it easy for families or groups, and there are V Level rooms and suites with extra services for guests who want more comfort. The facilities are generous for the price: an outdoor freshwater pool with a sunbathing area, an indoor freshwater pool heated to around twenty-eight degrees, and the Balance Mediterranean Spa with indoor and outdoor areas covering more than nine hundred and forty square metres, plus a wellness and beauty centre. The Mediterraneo restaurant serves buffet breakfast and dinner with show cooking, Momenti offers à la carte dining for V Level guests, and there are bars around the hotel. For children, Maro World, a family entertainment centre of about eighteen hundred square metres with playrooms and creative spaces, is shared with Valamar's other Babin Kuk hotels. The hotel lists offers running from late October to the end of December, which makes it one of the better choices for an autumn or early winter stay with an indoor pool and spa.

Babin Kuk is a resort area, not a historic neighbourhood, and that is both its strength and its limit. You get space, greenery, a seafront path to Copacabana beach and Lapad, sports facilities and quiet nights, but the Old Town is a bus or taxi ride away, around twenty minutes depending on traffic. Local buses run regularly into the city and to Gruž harbour for island ferries, and the hotel arranges airport transfers.

Know the trade-offs. This is a large, modern resort hotel, efficient rather than intimate, and in summer it is busy with families and groups. The buffet restaurant is convenient but not a culinary destination, so plan some dinners in Lapad or the Old Town. Sea views and V Level rooms cost more, and are worth it if you will spend time in the room. The indoor pool and spa are the reason to choose it out of season, when outdoor facilities around the city close.

Who should stay: families who want space, pools and a big play centre, couples on a spa break, groups who need rooms for up to six, and travellers visiting in late autumn who still want a pool. It is a good base for a week combining beach days, island trips from Gruž and two or three days in the Old Town. For a romantic, adults-only stay, Hotel More is close by; for a cheaper all-inclusive family option, look at Sunny Dubrovnik next door.
