Experience Tirol is one of Innsbruck’s newer attractions, a cross between a museum, a digital experience and a show, set over 512 square metres on the second floor of the Kaufhaus Tyrol department store on Maria-Theresien-Straße. Small groups move through five rooms in about an hour, each with a different theme and technique. You fly over the region’s highest peaks, live through moments of Tyrolean history including a ski jumper’s run at the Bergisel and the traditional mountain fires, step into Emperor Maximilian’s Innsbruck around 1500, walk among the ancient maples of the Ahornboden valley in the Karwendel, and finish among works of Tyrolean art. Virtual reality headsets and 360-degree projections do much of the work, and the sessions are timed, with entry every twenty minutes and a maximum of thirty people per group, which keeps it from feeling crowded. It is a good introduction at the start of a trip, and a very good plan B when cloud hides the mountains or the cable cars are closed. This page links to the Tiqets entry ticket.
How to visit: Experience Tirol is at Maria-Theresien-Straße 31, inside the Kaufhaus Tyrol, a few minutes’ walk from the Golden Roof. It opens Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 19:00, Saturday from 9:00 to 18:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, with last admission an hour before closing. Arrive ten minutes before your slot. Innsbruck Card holders must exchange their card on site for a time-slot ticket.
What to expect in November 2026: it is an indoor attraction with no seasonal closure listed, which makes it especially useful from 2 to 19 November 2026, while the Nordkette lifts are closed for maintenance. The sessions are timed and small, so it rarely feels crowded.
Making the most of it: book it on your first afternoon to get your bearings, or keep it for a grey day. It pairs neatly with shopping on Maria-Theresien-Straße and a look at St Anne’s Column, and it takes you to places, such as the Ahornboden, that are hard to reach in winter.
