Cape Cod & the Islands

Cape Cod is a bent arm of sand and scrub oak that reaches out into the Atlantic, and its off-season is when it shows its real character.

Beyond the summer traffic lie forty miles of National Seashore beach, a paved rail trail through the pine barrens, the working fish pier at Chatham, the Pilgrim Monument above Provincetown and the ferries that carry you across Nantucket Sound to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. This guide books the Cape and the islands properly: what is open in November, what waits for spring and summer, and how to plan ahead for whale watches, island tours and the big-name inns. Every sight carries its season, every hotel has been checked for winter opening, and the ferry advice reflects the current Steamship Authority schedules.
