The Iron Horse Hotel

A boutique hotel for riders and everyone else, in a 100-year-old warehouse in Walker's Point with exposed Cream City brick, oversized rooms, covered motorcycle parking and the Harley-Davidson Museum a short walk away.

★★★★★

The Iron Horse Hotel was made for Milwaukee, and especially for anyone who has come to the city because of Harley-Davidson. It occupies a 100-year-old warehouse at 500 West Florida Street in Walker's Point, the neighborhood just south of downtown, and the conversion keeps the building's character: exposed Cream City brick, heavy timber beams and big windows. Rooms are oversized, which the hotel describes as suite-sized by industry standards, and the top-floor Premium Lofts have 12-foot wood ceilings and eyebrow windows overlooking the city. The Cream City Studios add a sitting area and a large dining table, and junior suites on the sixth floor look over Walker's Point. Riders get thoughtful extras: covered motorcycle parking, gear storage with custom hooks, and workbenches in rooms. Everyone gets an in-room fridge, coffee machine and luxury robes, complimentary lobby coffee, a 24-hour fitness center and massage treatment rooms. Branded, the hotel bar and eatery, serves classic Milwaukee food and drink, and The Yard is the outdoor space for warmer days. Dogs of all sizes are welcome.

Location and getting around: the Harley-Davidson Museum is a short walk away in the Menomonee Valley, which makes the Iron Horse the obvious choice for a museum-focused trip. Walker's Point itself has some of Milwaukee's most interesting restaurants and bars, including Shaker's Cigar Bar for the ghost tour. The Historic Third Ward and the Public Market are across the river to the north, and downtown is a short ride away. A car or rideshare is useful here, and the hotel offers a Park It package that includes overnight parking.

Rooms and who it suits: riders, of course, but also couples and friends who like character and space. The oversized rooms suit families too, and interconnecting rooms are available. Ask for a Premium Loft for the most atmospheric room, or a Corner Alcove King for extra space and neighborhood views. ADA-accessible rooms are available.

Good to know: dogs of all sizes are welcome, with a room detailing fee per stay for overnight pet guests. Room service is available on request. Rates are mid to upper range for Milwaukee and can rise around big motorcycle events and summer festival weekends, so book early for those dates.
