For music fans, Paisley Park is the reason to come to Minnesota. Prince built the complex in Chanhassen, in the suburbs southwest of Minneapolis, as his recording studio, rehearsal space, sound stage and, in effect, his home, and after his death in 2016 it opened to the public as a museum. The tours take you inside the building where he recorded, rehearsed and threw his famous late-night parties, through rooms filled with his costumes, guitars, motorcycles, awards and personal objects, and into the studios where much of his later music was made. Guides share stories about how he worked and lived, and the atmosphere is part museum, part pilgrimage, with fans from all over the world. There are three tour levels. The Paisley Experience is the main-floor guided tour, about ninety minutes. The VIP Experience adds extra rooms, studio areas and rare artifacts, plus a photo opportunity, in about two hours. The Ultimate Experience adds Studios A, B and C, a private video screening and a control room audio session, in around three hours. Tickets are sold only through the official Paisley Park website linked on this page, and tour tickets are currently on sale through February 2027.
How to visit: Paisley Park is in Chanhassen, around half an hour’s drive southwest of downtown Minneapolis, so plan on a car, taxi or rideshare. Book a timed tour online in advance. The complex is open from Thursday to Monday and closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, and tour tickets are posted seasonally, currently through 28 February 2027. Age limits apply: no children under seven on the Paisley Experience, under ten on the VIP tour and under twelve on the Ultimate tour.
What to expect: phones, cameras, smart glasses and other recording devices must be locked in a Yondr pouch before the tour and can only be used in media-approved areas. It sounds strict, but most visitors find it adds to the focus. Tours are guided and move at a steady pace, so arrive early to check in and use the shop and facilities first.
Making the most of it: choose the VIP or Ultimate tour if you are a serious fan, as the studio time is what most people remember. Combine the trip with a Prince day in Minneapolis, including First Avenue downtown, and leave plenty of time for the shop at the end.
