Jewel Changi Airport is the reason people now arrive early for flights in Singapore. Opened in 2019 next to Terminal 1, it is a doughnut-shaped glass dome designed by Moshe Safdie, the architect of Marina Bay Sands, and its centre is the Rain Vortex, billed as the world's tallest indoor waterfall: a torrent that drops about forty meters from an opening in the roof through seven storeys into a pool below. Around it, the Shiseido Forest Valley climbs the terraces in thousands of trees and plants, with walking trails through the greenery. Most of Jewel is a shopping mall with restaurants, cafes and a cinema, and entry to the building, the waterfall and the forest is free. At night the Rain Vortex becomes the screen for a light-and-sound show, held several times each evening. The paid part is Canopy Park on the top level, a garden with a hedge maze, a mirror maze, bouncing and walking nets suspended over the forest, discovery slides, topiary walks and the Canopy Bridge, a glass-floored walkway twenty-three meters up with views straight down into the waterfall pool. Tickets cover single attractions or bundles. The Jewel is landside, so you can visit on arrival before going into the city, on departure day before checking in, or on a long layover if you have time to clear immigration. Early check-in counters for several airlines operate in Jewel, which makes departure-day visits easy.
The waterfall is the show. By day it is a roaring curtain of water in green light; the best views are from the forest terraces on the upper levels and from the bridge between Jewel and Terminal 1, and the airport's Skytrain glides past the dome so you can see it from the train. In the evening, the light-and-sound show turns the falling water into projections set to music; showtimes are posted daily, typically on the hour in the evening, with an extra late show at weekends. The waterfall runs during operating hours, and in rare maintenance windows it may pause, so check if it is your main reason to come.
Canopy Park opens from 10am until 9pm on weekdays and 10pm at the weekend, and individual attractions within it, such as the Canopy Bridge and mazes, keep slightly shorter hours. Some elements close occasionally for maintenance; in 2026 the Walking Net was among those under maintenance at times, so check before buying a bundle for it. Re-entry is allowed only to the Canopy Park garden itself. Tickets bought through resellers are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled, so pick the time realistically around your flight. Seasonal displays come and go: Jewel hosts blooming flower shows and holiday installations through the year.
How to time it: on arrival, clear immigration, store bags at the baggage services counter or check in at the Jewel early check-in area if you are departing later, then spend one or two hours. From the city, the MRT to Changi Airport station connects directly, or take a taxi. Jewel is linked to Terminals 1, 2 and 3 by walkways. Transit passengers without a visa requirement can enter Singapore for a few hours, but allow plenty of time for immigration in both directions. Food is the hidden bonus: Jewel has outposts of well-known local restaurants and a food hall, which make it a good last Singapore meal.

Pairs Well With
Gardens by the Bay
Singapore's signature sight: steel Supertrees that light up to music every night, the cool mist of the Cloud Forest's indoor waterfall, and the Flower Dome's year-round spring. The outdoor gardens are free; the domes are the ticket worth buying.
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site: 160-plus years of tropical garden, open from 5am to midnight and free, with the National Orchid Garden's thousands of blooms the one ticket worth paying for. The city's best morning walk.

The ship-shaped deck balanced across three towers, two hundred meters above Marina Bay, with the Supertrees, the Singapore Strait and the downtown skyline spread out below. Go for sunset, stay for the city lights.
