Village Hotel Bugis is a dependable mid-range choice in one of the most convenient and characterful parts of the city. It stands on Victoria Street, about three minutes' walk from Bugis MRT, with Kampong Gelam's Sultan Mosque, Arab Street and Haji Lane a short stroll away and Little India within easy walking distance. That puts the city's heritage quarters and some of its best food at your door: Malay, Middle Eastern and Indian restaurants in Kampong Gelam, the Tekka Centre hawker stalls in Little India, and the shopping of Bugis Junction and Bugis Street. The rooms are generously sized for the price at about 32 square metres for the Superior, Deluxe and Family categories, with suites around double that, and the Family Rooms make the hotel a good option for parents with children who want space without the cost of an upmarket brand. An outdoor swimming pool with city views is a welcome break in the afternoon heat. Dining is a strength for Muslim travellers and anyone who enjoys Middle Eastern food: Tarboush is a halal-certified restaurant serving Turkish, Middle Eastern and Western dishes, and The Landmark offers a halal buffet. The hotel is older than its sister Far East properties and the style is more practical than fashionable, but it is clean, well run and good value, and its location, between the Civic District and the heritage quarters, is hard to fault. Facade improvement works ran through early November 2026, and the pool had a temporary closure in September and early October 2026, so check the latest notices when you book.
Who it suits: families who need space, halal-conscious travellers, and first-timers who want to walk to Kampong Gelam and Little India and have the MRT close by for everything else. Bugis station is on two MRT lines, giving fast links to Marina Bay, Chinatown, the airport and the Botanic Gardens. A good first evening here is a short walk to Kampong Gelam as the Sultan Mosque's golden dome lights up, dinner on Arab Street or Bussorah Street, and a wander down Haji Lane's murals and small bars; the next morning, Little India's temples and flower-garland stalls and Tekka Centre's breakfast are fifteen minutes away on foot. The hotel's location also makes it easy to reach Fort Canning, the National Museum and the Civic District without the MRT.
Room craft: rooms are similar in size across the Superior, Deluxe and Family categories, so the choice comes down to bed configuration and floor; Family Rooms suit parents with one or two children, and the suites give room to spread out for longer stays. Ask for a higher floor for city views and less street noise.
Practicals: 390 Victoria Street; about three minutes to Bugis MRT; walking distance to Kampong Gelam, Little India and Bugis Junction. Fit: families, foodies exploring the heritage quarters, and value-minded first-timers.
