CityInn Hotel Taipei Station Branch I

A small, tidy budget hotel on Huaining Street, about five minutes on foot from Taipei Main Station, with 51 simple rooms and free WiFi. The smart choice for day trips on a budget.

★★★★★

CityInn is a Taiwanese chain of compact, good-value hotels, and its Taipei Station Branch I is one of the best-placed budget stays in the city. It sits at No. 7 Huaining Street in Zhongzheng, about a five-minute walk from Taipei Main Station, where the MRT red and blue lines, the high-speed rail, the regular trains and the Airport MRT all meet. That makes it ideal for day trips: trains for Ruifang, Jiufen and the Pingxi Line leave from the station, and the coach tours to Jiufen and Shifen meet a few MRT stops away. The hotel has 51 rooms with a clean, simple style, free WiFi, a 24-hour front desk and laundry facilities, and the area around it is full of cheap eats, bakeries and convenience stores.

Living in it: walk to the North Gate, the National Taiwan Museum and the 228 Peace Park, or ride one stop to Ximending. The underground malls around the station keep you dry on rainy days.

Trade-offs: rooms are small and some have little or no view, and facilities are basic, with no gym or restaurant. The station area is busy and practical rather than charming. For a little more space, the chain has other branches nearby.
