Where to Stay in Providenciales

How to choose a base in Providenciales, from Grace Bay beachfront suites and an all-inclusive to a small, budget-friendly hotel, tied to five stays.

Almost every visitor to Providenciales stays on or near Grace Bay, and for good reason: the beach is the main event, and the restaurants, boat pickups and activities are all strung along it. The real choice is not the area but the type of stay, how much space you need, whether meals are included and how much you want to spend.

Grace Bay, the luxury end

Grace Bay Club at 38 Bonaventure Crescent is the classic splurge. Its Hotel building is adults-only for guests sixteen and over, while the Villa Suites and Estate residences welcome all ages, and guests get free use of kayaks, paddleboards and Hobie Cats. The Palms Turks and Caicos at 16 Princess Drive is a big, all-suite resort in the middle of the bay, with full kitchens, an infinity pool with a swim-up bar, a spa and a kids club. Both put you on the sand, and both suit special trips and families that value space.

Grace Bay, the mid-range

The Sands at Grace Bay offers 114 renovated suites with kitchens or kitchenettes in open-air three-story buildings, at a more moderate price than the luxury properties. Courtyard junior suites are the budget way into a beachfront stay, and one building has an elevator. Alexandra Resort is the all-inclusive choice, with a lagoon-style pool, four restaurants, a spa and kids twelve and under staying free, so you know the cost upfront. Choose an all-inclusive if you like to settle in, and a suite with a kitchen if you like to eat out and cook a few meals.

The western end and the budget choice

Sibonné Beach Hotel, at 2 Sibonne Road on the western side of the Grace Bay area, is a small hotel with about 30 rooms around a garden, a Bay Bistro restaurant, a small pool and direct beach access, about ten minutes from the airport. The rooms are modest, so it is best for couples and solo travelers who spend their days outdoors and want to keep the budget under control.

The south coast

Chalk Sound and Taylor Bay are on the quieter southwest side, where there is much less activity, with villa rentals and few hotels. They are lovely for a day trip, with calm water and paddling, but most visitors base themselves on Grace Bay and drive across. If you want true quiet, a villa on the south coast is an option, though you will need a car.

Booking tips

Rates rise in winter, over the Christmas and New Year period and around spring holidays, so reserve early for those dates. Ask whether your room category has a kitchen, whether breakfast or a daily meal plan is included and what fees are added on top, because taxes and service charges can change the real price. If your hotel is not on a boat operator's pickup list, you may need a taxi to the departure point, which is worth knowing when you compare a beachfront suite with a cheaper room further back.

How to choose

Couples on a milestone trip should look at Grace Bay Club or The Palms. Families will like The Palms, The Sands or Alexandra Resort for kitchens, kids clubs and free-stay policies. Budget travelers should look at Sibonné or a courtyard suite at The Sands. Book early for winter and holiday periods, confirm pickup arrangements for boat trips and check the policies during hurricane season, which runs to the end of November.
