Hotel Bristol has been the city's most famous address for more than a century, and in 2026 it celebrates 125 years. The project began in the 1890s, when the pianist and future prime minister Ignacy Jan Paderewski and his partners bought a palace on Krakowskie Przedmieście, and the hotel opened its doors in 1901 in an Art Nouveau building designed by Władysław Marconi. Today it is part of Marriott's Luxury Collection. It stands on the Royal Route next to the Presidential Palace, a few minutes' walk from Castle Square and the Old Town. Inside, Café Bristol, with its Viennese-style interiors and patisseries, is a Warsaw institution in its own right; the Column Bar and Restaurant hosts live jazz on set evenings, Marconi serves breakfast, Lane's Gin Bar offers Nikkei cuisine, and afternoon tea is served in style. The Bristol Spa has an indoor pool, sauna and steam room, and there is a gym on the sixth floor.
Location and getting around: Krakowskie Przedmieście is the most elegant street in Warsaw and the best base for sightseeing on foot. Turn right out of the hotel and the Royal Castle and Old Town are about ten minutes away; turn left and the street runs into Nowy Świat with its cafes, then on to the National Museum and Łazienki. The Holy Cross Church, where Chopin's heart is kept, is a few steps away. Nowy Świat metro station and the main railway stations are a short taxi ride.
The rooms: rooms and suites are classically elegant and generously proportioned for a historic building, and the signature suites, including the Paderewski Suite, are the grandest in the city. Street-facing rooms look over the Royal Route; ask for a courtyard side if you are a light sleeper.
Who it suits and good to know: couples, special occasions and travellers who want history and service. Pets are welcome for a fee, there is on-site parking for a daily charge, and check-in is from mid-afternoon. It is among the most expensive hotels in Warsaw, but on a cold November evening, coming back to the spa pool and a table at Café Bristol is hard to beat.
