Whistler Blackcomb Skiing

Two mountains, one ticket, opening November 20

Whistler Blackcomb is the reason the village exists. Two big mountains face each other across the valley, joined by the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, and a single lift ticket covers both. For the 2026-27 season Whistler Blackcomb is targeting a November 20, 2026 opening, conditions permitting, and the resort defines its Core Season as December 7, 2026 to April 17, 2027. Opening day typically means a limited number of lifts and trails running on groomed snow, and terrain expands through December as the snowpack builds. This winter Vail Resorts has announced a new quad chairlift replacing the Showcase T-Bar on Blackcomb, improving access to Horstman Glacier and Blackcomb Glacier terrain. Lift tickets are limited all season: the official ticket page says some days will sell out, that a sold-out date will not be sold at the ticket window either, and that each ticket is valid for one resort and one date. Buying online at least seven days ahead brings the best price, and unused days on a ticket are refundable until the last day of its validity. The Epic Pass and the Whistler Blackcomb Day Pass also cover both mountains and the Peak 2 Peak Gondola.

Choosing between the mountains is part of the fun. Whistler Mountain has the big bowls, Peak Chair and a long network of intermediate groomers, while Blackcomb is steeper and higher in its glacier terrain, with Horstman Glacier as the high-elevation playground. Most visitors ski both over a few days and cross on the Peak 2 Peak. Beginners have gentle zones at the base of each mountain and ski school programmes, while strong intermediates will find enough cruising terrain to keep busy for a week.

Plan around the snow, not the calendar. Opening day and early December are about limited terrain, and the real depth arrives from mid-December through March. Pass prices rise on November 15, and the Day Pass, which has to be bought with accommodation at least seven days before arrival, usually stops selling in early December. Canadian and Washington State residents can look at EDGE Cards, and Epic Pass holders get discounts on lodging, food and lessons. Peak holiday weeks are the most crowded and the most likely to sell out.

Practicalities. The Whistler Village Gondola and the Excalibur Gondola leave from the pedestrian village, and the Blackcomb Gondola runs from the Upper Village at the foot of the Fairmont Chateau. Allow time to rent equipment, buy a ticket and warm up before your first lift. Check conditions each morning, because the weather can change from rain in the village to snow at the top, and dress in layers with a helmet. If you do not ski, a Peak 2 Peak sightseeing ticket, a spa day and a snowshoe tour fill a winter trip well.
