★★★★★

Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa is the splurge pick on Denarau Island and the hotel that most closely matches the idea of a luxury Fijian beach holiday. It is a five-star beachfront resort that blends French hospitality with Fijian culture, and Accor describes it as a recently renovated leading five-star hotel on mainland Fiji. The resort sits a short drive from Nadi International Airport and close to Port Denarau Marina, where the island cruises leave, so it works as a base for both resort days and day trips. Rooms and suites run from Superior rooms of about thirty-five square metres with a king or two queen beds, through Luxury rooms and Family rooms with a queen bed and bunk beds, up to suites including the Family Suite, Prestige Suite, a two-bedroom interconnecting suite for up to six guests, the Opera Suite and the Imperial Suite of about one hundred square metres. Most rooms offer garden views, with ocean views in some suites. The resort advertises one of the largest pools in the South Pacific, and the Waitui Beach Club offers an adults-only area. Dining is a feature: Bazaar Kitchen and Bar for buffets, Waitui Bar and Grill by the pool, KOKO for Fijian cuisine on the beach, Solis for Mediterranean food, Madame So for Vietnamese, La Parisienne for café fare and Suka Bar for infused rums. The Sofitel Spa and Salon offers a French-Fijian approach to treatments.

Location and getting around: Denarau Island is a resort enclave connected to the mainland by a causeway, with a golf course, shops and Port Denarau Marina nearby. From the Sofitel you can reach the marina by a short drive or shuttle, which makes early island cruise departures painless, and taxis and buses run to Nadi town, the Sabeto valley and the Coral Coast. Most day tours listed on this site collect from Denarau hotels, so you rarely need a hire car. The airport is a short drive away, and the transfer is easy after a long flight.

The rooms and who it suits: the choice depends on your party. Couples will like Luxury rooms with beach club access and the adults-only Waitui area, while families will use Family rooms with bunks, the Niu Kids Beach Club and the Teenage Zone. The scale of the resort means there is room for everyone, but it can be busy in school holidays. Rooms are comfortable and well equipped, although most face gardens rather than the ocean, so pay extra for a sea view if the outlook matters.

Good to know: the Waitui Beach Club pool is scheduled for a full upgrade from 11 January to 24 February 2027, with the club temporarily closed during that period, while the main pool stays open and beachfront cabanas are offered to adults. A guest review mentions construction near the resort, so ask about your room location if quiet matters. Dining is plentiful but resort prices apply, and breakfast is usually a buffet at Bazaar. Book directly or through a trusted site for packages, and ask about airport transfers when you reserve. It is the most complete resort on the island for travellers who want to arrive, unpack and not think about logistics for a week.
