Aquaria KLCC

Sharks and rays under the Petronas Towers

Aquaria KLCC sits on the ground level of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, a short walk from the Petronas Towers and KLCC Park, and it is the easiest family outing in the city. The aquarium is home to more than 150 species of marine life and, counting birds and land animals, over 250 species in all, from tiger sharks, rays and sea snakes to seahorses, jellyfish, octopuses and otters. Habitats are designed to mirror the animals’ natural surroundings, starting with the rivers and rainforests of Malaysia and moving out to the open sea. The highlight is the long underwater tunnel, where sharks and rays glide overhead. It is open daily, including public holidays, and tickets are sold for timed entry slots.

How it works: Tiqets sells a standard entry ticket and combinations with KL Tower or the Petronas Towers. Pick a time slot, show your voucher at the entrance and plan for single entry, as you cannot leave and come back.

What to expect: weekends and school holidays are busy, so a weekday morning is calmest. There is no café inside and outside food is not allowed, so eat before you go. Feeding sessions run through the day, and the timetable is posted at the entrance.

Making the most of it: combine it with the Petronas Towers on the same day; the walk between them is under cover through the convention centre and Suria KLCC. Afterwards, let children run off energy at the free playground and wading pool in KLCC Park, then stay for the evening fountain show by the lake.
