LUX* Le Morne

Le Morne, South-West Coast

LUX* Le Morne

A stylish five-star resort on the south-west coast at the foot of Le Morne Brabant, with five pools, a beachfront tree house, Japanese omakase and Thai restaurants, the LUX* Me Spa and sunset views over the lagoon.

★★★★★

LUX* Le Morne is the place to stay if you want the drama of the south-west: the resort is sheltered right beneath Le Morne Brabant, the UNESCO-listed mountain, with a long beach on one of the island’s finest lagoons and sunsets over the open sea. It is a contemporary, design-led resort with a playful touch. There are five swimming pools, two of them heated, spread through tropical gardens, and a tree house on the beach that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner or movie nights. Dining is a strong point: KAWAII is an eight-seat Japanese omakase sushi bar, EAST serves bold Thai cooking, The Beach has a Mediterranean feel with west-coast views, The Kitchen is the all-day main restaurant, and Maison LUX* is an Italian- and French-leaning café and bar, with ICI making homemade ice cream every afternoon. The LUX* Me Spa offers treatments, and the hotel arranges dolphin watching, seasonal whale watching, catamaran cruises, big-game fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkelling, plus day trips to Ile des Deux Cocos. Rooms range from deluxe rooms to junior suites, ocean junior suites and family suites. It is an upmarket, lively base for active couples and families who want to hike Le Morne, see the dolphins and explore Chamarel without long drives.

Location and getting around: the resort sits on the Le Morne peninsula at the south-west tip of the island, around an hour and a quarter by road from the airport. The Le Morne hike starts a few minutes away, the dolphin boats leave from nearby Black River and Tamarin, and Chamarel’s coloured earth and the Black River Gorges are about half an hour inland. Port Louis and the north are a long drive, so plan a dedicated day.

Rooms: deluxe rooms and junior suites are bright and airy, with terraces or balconies, many close to the beach. Ocean junior suites face the sea and are worth it for the sunsets, and family suites give space for children.

Who it suits: couples and families who want a stylish, sociable resort with excellent food and plenty to do, close to the south-west’s hikes, dolphins and viewpoints.

Good to know: check-in is from 14:00 and check-out at 11:00. All-inclusive packages are available, but KAWAII and EAST are excluded, with a food credit instead, so book them early in your stay. An evening dress code applies. Prepaid bookings made under the current policy can be changed or cancelled free until 30 days before arrival.
