Deja Resort is the budget way to do Montego Bay all-inclusive, and its location is the big selling point: it sits at 92 Gloucester Avenue in the middle of the Hip Strip, about a minute’s walk from Doctor’s Cave Beach, where guests get free access. The resort has 93 rooms, from superior doubles and kings to junior and king suites, some with balconies or terraces, all with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Meals, snacks and drinks are included, served at the Waterfalls Restaurant, which offers Jamaican and international dishes, and the Jammin Bar and Grill by the Cliffside Pool, which has a swim-up bar and a hot tub. Location and getting around: Deja is about five minutes from Sangster International Airport, which makes it ideal for short stays and early flights; airport transport is available for a fee and must be booked ahead. Everything on the Hip Strip is walkable, and taxis to Rose Hall, downtown and the tour pickups are easy to find.

The rooms: rooms are simple and comfortable rather than luxurious, in four categories. Suites give more space for families, and rooms facing the street can pick up noise from the Hip Strip at night.

Who it suits: budget travellers, groups of friends and families who want an all-inclusive price with a real town on the doorstep, rather than a gated resort.
