Half Moon

Montego Bay’s grand old luxury estate: 400 acres in Rose Hall with two miles of private beach, an equestrian centre, a championship golf course, the Fern Tree Spa and an adults-focused enclave called Eclipse.

★★★★★

Half Moon is the splurge of Montego Bay, a sprawling resort estate in Rose Hall that feels more like a private village than a hotel. Its 400 acres run from the hills to two miles of private beachfront, and they hold an equestrian centre where you can ride and even swim with horses, a championship golf course with a golf academy, tennis, the Fern Tree Spa with its salon, fitness studio and yoga, the Anancy Children’s Village for kids, and a cluster of shops. Dining is spread across several restaurants, including Delmare, the Sugar Mill, Hayward’s, North Pointe and spice, with a beach barbecue on Fridays. Accommodation comes in three parts: Eclipse at Half Moon, a newer enclave with an infinity-edge saltwater pool, the Villas, and Founders Cove, which the resort lists as coming soon. Expedia rates it 9.4 out of 10 from 699 reviews. Hurricane Melissa hit the estate in 2025; Eclipse and the Villas are open, but one September 2026 review says some villas were still closed, so confirm your room type when booking.

Location and getting around: Half Moon is on the Rose Hall coast east of the city, about a twelve-minute drive from Sangster International Airport, with an airport shuttle on request. Rose Hall Great House is close by, and the Hip Strip is a short taxi ride. The estate is large, so ask at check-in how best to get between the beach, the restaurants and the stables.

The rooms: there are around 18 room and villa types, from rooms and suites in Eclipse to the larger villas spread across the grounds. Eclipse is the most polished and modern part of the estate, while the villas suit families and groups who want space and privacy.

Who it suits: honeymooners, golfers, riders and families who want a full-service resort with plenty to do without leaving the grounds. It is not an all-inclusive in the usual sense, so check what your rate covers.

Good to know: book the horse swim and spa treatments early in your stay. Because the estate is so large, ask for a room close to the facilities you will use most.
