Embassy Suites by Hilton Niagara Falls Fallsview

An all-suite tower in the Fallsview district with falls-view suites, separate living space for families, and the brand's free made-to-order breakfast — the smart family and group pick on the Canadian side.

★★★★★

Embassy Suites by Hilton Niagara Falls Fallsview is the Canadian side's best all-round family base: a tall all-suite tower on Fallsview Boulevard, close to the Horseshoe Falls, where every room is a suite with a separate living area and the brand's signature free cooked-to-order breakfast is included. That combination solves the two biggest headaches of a family trip to Niagara, space and the cost of eating out, and the falls-view suites add the view that makes the destination. On the upper floors facing the river, the suites look over the Horseshoe Falls and across to the American Falls, and the living room window becomes the family's private viewing platform for the nightly illumination and the fireworks. Expect the brand's standard: a bedroom with a door that closes, a living room with a sofa bed, a small kitchenette area, and enough room for four without anyone sleeping in the bath. As with every Fallsview hotel, the view categories vary, and city-view suites lack the payoff, so pay attention when booking. The location is excellent: Table Rock, Journey Behind the Falls and the Power Station are a short walk downhill, the Skylon Tower is nearby, and the casino and Fallsview restaurants are around the corner. Clifton Hill and the Canadian boat are a longer walk along the river or a ride on the seasonal Incline Railway and buses. Parking is paid. Best for: families with children, groups of friends sharing a suite, and anyone who wants space and an included breakfast without giving up a view of the falls. Couples on a romantic trip may prefer a more intimate hotel, but for value and practicality, this tower is hard to beat on the Canadian side.

All-suite hotels are an especially good fit at Niagara, because the experience revolves around the view and the evening shows, and a separate living room means parents can watch the illumination or the fireworks after children are asleep in the bedroom. The Embassy Suites formula is reliable: the suite layout, the breakfast with made-to-order eggs and omelets, and an evening reception in many locations, though what is offered can change, so check current inclusions when booking. The Fallsview tower adds height and the falls, which is the reason to choose it over the many cheaper motels along Lundy's Lane.

Choosing a suite: falls-view suites on higher floors are the prize, giving the full sweep of the Horseshoe Falls and the gorge. Lower falls-view floors still see the water but may have partial views over neighboring buildings. City-view suites are fine for budget-conscious groups who plan to spend their evenings outdoors, but they miss the point of staying in Fallsview. Summer weekends and holidays sell out early; the off-season brings far lower rates, and the Winter Festival of Lights makes November to January a great time for families.

Base math: walk down the hill to Table Rock for the falls and Journey Behind the Falls, and to the Power Station for the tunnel. Use the Incline Railway or the WEGO buses in season to get to Clifton Hill, the boat, the Butterfly Conservatory and the Whirlpool Aero Car. In winter, the walk downhill to the festival lights along the parkway is easy, and the walk back up is the price. For families that want Clifton Hill on the doorstep and an indoor waterpark connected to the hotel, the Falls Avenue hotels at the top of Clifton Hill are the alternative.
