Evening Experience

Petra by Night

The Siq and the Treasury by candlelight

Petra by Night is the site’s evening experience: you walk the Siq in near silence by the light of paper-bag candles and arrive at the Treasury, its forecourt glowing with about 2,000 more. In May 2025 the show was reimagined with projection mapping and immersive narration on the facade, replacing the old music-and-tea format that many visitors found underwhelming. According to the official Visit Petra page, it runs Sunday to Thursday from 20:30 for about two hours. It needs its own ticket, sold for the date of issue only, and you must also hold a daytime Petra ticket or a Jordan Pass. Children under 10 go free. Arrive about ten minutes early for checks, and leave flash photography, torches and drones behind.

How it works: buy your ticket at the visitor centre on the day and meet at the gate before the start. The walk in is about two kilometres in the dark, on the same route as by day.

What to expect: the walk through the candlelit Siq is the highlight for most people. Crowds vary; with fewer visitors in 2026, many evenings feel calm. Evenings in November and winter are cold, so bring a warm layer.

Making the most of it: stay overnight in Wadi Musa so you can go on your first evening, then enter the site early the next morning. Walk at the back of the group for the darkest, quietest stretch of the Siq.
