River Wonders, known as River Safari until 2021, is the smallest and most relaxed of the Mandai parks, and it has the star attraction that the others do not: giant pandas. Kai Kai and Jia Jia arrived in Singapore in 2012 on loan from China; their loan was extended in 2022 and they are set to return to China in 2027, which makes the next year or so the last chance to see them here. They live in the Giant Panda Forest, a climate-controlled enclosure kept cool and planted with bamboo, where they can be seen eating, climbing and very often sleeping. Their cub Le Le, the first and only giant panda born in Singapore, went to China in January 2024. The rest of the park is organised around the great rivers of the world, with walk-through zones themed on the Mississippi, the Congo, the Nile, the Ganges, the Mekong and the Yangtze, each showing the fish, reptiles and mammals of that river system. The highlight beyond the pandas is the Amazon Flooded Forest, one of the largest freshwater aquariums in the world, where West Indian manatees and huge river fish glide past a curved window that recreates the Amazon in flood season. Nearby, giant river otters and capybaras add plenty of charm, and Amazonia Encounters showcases smaller creatures of the rainforest. There is also an optional boat ride, the Amazon River Quest, whose operation varies, so check on arrival. River Wonders is compact and mostly shaded, so two to three hours is enough, and it fits neatly into a Mandai day.

The pandas are the reason most people come, so plan around them. Mornings tend to be the most active time, and the enclosure is less crowded early. In September the park marks Kai Kai and Jia Jia's birthdays with special enrichment treats and events; in 2026 the celebrations included a Panda Planet exhibition. Remember that pandas spend much of the day resting, so set expectations with children, and come back for a second look later if the first one is a sleeping bear.

Allow two to three hours. A good order is the Giant Panda Forest first, then the river zones and the Amazon Flooded Forest, with time to sit in front of the manatee window, which is one of the calmest spots in the whole reserve. Food and drink options are inside the park and around the shared Mandai entrance plaza. The park is wheelchair accessible, with complimentary wheelchairs at the entrance, and lockers are available for a fee. Last admission is an hour before closing.

River Wonders sits between the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari in the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, so it pairs naturally with either. The classic plan is a morning at Bird Paradise or the zoo, an afternoon at River Wonders, and the Night Safari after dark. If you are short on time and travelling with young children, River Wonders plus the Night Safari is the most manageable combination: relatively short walks, plenty of shade, and pandas before dinner. Getting there takes 30 to 40 minutes by taxi from the city, or the MRT to Khatib plus the Mandai shuttle bus.

Good Questions

Are the giant pandas still at River Wonders?

Yes. Kai Kai and Jia Jia have lived here since 2012. Their loan was extended in 2022 and they are set to return to China in 2027, so check the park's updates if you are travelling later.

What happened to the panda cub Le Le?

Le Le, the only giant panda born in Singapore, moved to China in January 2024 as agreed under the loan arrangement.

Is River Wonders the same as River Safari?

How long do I need?

Two to three hours covers the pandas, the river zones and the Amazon Flooded Forest at a relaxed pace.

Is the boat ride included?

The Amazon River Quest boat ride is an optional activity whose operation varies, so check availability and queue times when you arrive.
