Creation Museum

The Ark Encounter's sister attraction near the Cincinnati airport

The Creation Museum, in Petersburg, Kentucky, about seven miles west of the Cincinnati airport, was the first of the two attractions built by Answers in Genesis, opening in 2007, nearly a decade before the Ark Encounter. Its walk-through exhibits present the Bible's account of history from creation to the flood from a young-earth creationist viewpoint, with animatronic dinosaurs, dioramas, fossils and films, and visitors should expect a museum that argues a religious case rather than mainstream science. Around the building are landscaped botanical gardens, the Plants of the Bible Conservatory, the Creation Zoo, a playground and the Stargazer Planetarium, and the grounds are pleasant to walk in any season. In winter the museum becomes the setting for Christmas at the Creation Museum, with a live nativity, a garden of lights, concerts and lit-up dinosaurs on select evenings. It is closer to Cincinnati than the Ark, so a half day here works well, or you can pair the two on a long day.

Hours from late October 2026 to 2 January 2027: the museum opens Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm, with last admission an hour before closing, and it is closed on Sundays. It also closes on Thanksgiving Day (26 November), Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Parking booths open thirty minutes before the museum.

Christmas at the Creation Museum: in 2026 the evening event runs on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 27 November to 2 January 2027, with extra Tuesday and Wednesday openings on 22, 23, 29 and 30 December, and it is closed on New Year's Eve. The evening event itself costs only the price of parking and includes the live nativity, the garden of lights, concerts, the conservatory and the planetarium. A full-day option adds the museum exhibits, which need paid admission and close at 5pm. Check the event calendar on the museum's site for the evening times.

Getting there: the address is 2800 Bullittsburg Church Road, Petersburg, Kentucky, roughly thirty minutes by car from downtown Cincinnati; there is no practical public transport, so drive or take a rideshare. Allow three to four hours for the exhibits, gardens and zoo, more if you stay for the evening event. Buy tickets on the museum's own site, where combination tickets with the Ark Encounter are offered. Dress for the weather if you plan to walk the gardens and see the lights.
