Mövenpick Resort Petra

Petra Gate, Wadi Musa

Mövenpick Resort Petra

A five-star resort right at the entrance to Petra, about 50 metres from the visitor centre and museum, with a rooftop garden, several restaurants, a pool and a spa. The splurge for a Petra stay.

★★★★★

Location is everything in Wadi Musa, and the Mövenpick Resort Petra has the best of it. The hotel describes itself as directly at the entrance to the ancient city, about 50 metres from the visitor centre, the Petra Museum and the main gate, which means you can be first into the Siq in the morning and back for a rest at lunchtime. Inside, the building is styled with Arabesque woodwork, marble and a central courtyard. Dining spans Al Iwan and Al Saraya all-day restaurants, the Al Baraka Tea Room and the Al Ghadeer Roof Garden, which serves barbecue nights and argileh with views over the Petra hills. There is an outdoor pool (seasonal, roughly May to October), a spa and bars. Rooms range from Classic and Superior to family connecting rooms and suites.

Living in it: you walk to the site, to Petra by Night and to the museum, and the rooftop is a fine place to end the day.

Trade-offs: rates are the highest in town, and the pool closes in the cooler months. The location is busy with arrivals in the morning.
