Dubai Safari Park

Six zones, three thousand animals and a safari drive

Dubai Safari Park is the city's big wildlife park, open in the cooler months and closed through the heat of summer, and it reopened for its eighth season on 12 October 2026. It lies in Al Warqa, on the inland side of the city off the Hatta road, and it is a very different day out from the glass-and-steel attractions: low buildings, wide paths, shade trees and more than three thousand animals spread across six zones. The zones are arranged by region and theme, with villages devoted to the animals of Africa and Asia, a section on the wildlife of the Arabian desert, a children's farm with animals to meet and feed, and an explorer area. The highlight for most visitors is the safari drive, which takes you by vehicle through large open enclosures where herds of antelope, giraffes and other large animals roam open ground rather than pens. A small train links the villages, so families with young children do not have to walk the whole site, and there are scheduled shows and keeper talks through the day, including birds of prey and animal presentations. This season also adds a premium Royal Safari experience for those who want a more private tour. Food outlets and shaded rest areas are spread around the park. It is a gentle, outdoorsy day rather than a thrill, best in the morning when the animals are active and the air is cool. Fit: families with young children, animal lovers, and visitors who want a break from malls and towers on a cool-season day.

The park opened in its current form in late 2018 and has grown into one of the most popular cool-season outings for Dubai residents, which tells you something useful: weekends and public holidays can be busy, and weekdays are calmer. The animals are kept in naturalistic enclosures, and the park places emphasis on education and conservation messaging, especially for desert species native to the region.

How to do it well: arrive at opening, head first for the safari drive, which is the part most likely to have queues later, and then explore the villages by train and on foot. Check the show schedule at the entrance and plan around one or two. Ticket tiers differ in what they include, such as the train and the guided Explorer Safari Tour, so read the options before you buy; the standard pass is fine for a relaxed visit, and the higher tiers save time on busy days. Bring hats, sunscreen and water even in winter, since much of the site is outdoors. Allow four hours for a full visit with children, or a little less if you focus on the safari drive and one village.

Getting there: the park is about twenty-five minutes by taxi from Downtown or Deira, longer from the Marina, and there is plenty of parking for those who drive. It pairs well with the Dubai Miracle Garden or Global Village on the same day for a family-focused cool-season itinerary, or with IMG Worlds of Adventure if you want to add rides. The park closes for the summer, usually from late spring, so check season dates if you are travelling near the end of the season.
